One of the things I hate about technology, and believe me there are many things, is fonts! Having to change all the fonts if you copy and paste text because everyone uses a different one. Can’t we all just get along? Whose idea was it that we need thousands of fonts available to us at all times? I get stuff in Arial, Arial Black (Isn’t that just Arial Bold, don’t try to trick me), Calibri, Times New Roman (which BTW thinks it’s SO cool, they just want to separate themselves from the ‘old’ Romans who’s empire fell because their Emperor moved to another city and……anyway it’s all in some book I read called….um…..’Everybody Poops’ I think). There is Adobe this, Adobe that, there are a ton of ‘Gothic’ fonts, in their long black coats in the 92 degree weather. Gothic fonts are for the very young who haven’t realize that they are different, just like everybody else. There is even a Bauhaus 93 for type’s sake and I’m just happy there’s no Bauhaus 94 through 2013! How much easier would life be if we all just used the same font? Well, maybe not that much easier but I still think we should decide on just one. Are you special because you can type in Castellar or Goudy Stout? I could use a couple of good Goudy Stouts right now. I wonder if there’s a Margarita font. There’s one font that so tiny I can’t even read it- tunga. There’s Tekton Pro and Tekton Pro Ext but no just plain Tekton. The other fonts aren’t pros, why does Tekton have to be? Tekton will always be held to a higher standard. Poor little Tekton, just chugging along outside the circle of fonts. So please just agree on one. Oh never mind, you know what, as far as I’m concerned you can all just go to Helvetica!
Great post! I tend to stick to one or two fonts I like. It really grates me to read stuff written in other fonts but mainly cause I’m not used to it. On another note, I have also written a piece on fonts on my blog and thought you might enjoy it! It’s about what your favourite font says about you – http://gedlab.com/what-your-font-says-about-you/
